Heidi Arrington has had a remarkable 30+ year career in the travel and tourism industry where she spent close to a decade as a Sr. Instructor for reservations and airport operations training at a major global airline.
Heidi finished her airline career as an International Flight Attendant and has used this love of travel and sharing her diverse hospitality knowledge through several technical writing projects for both business’ and community colleges.
When she was not traveling, Heidi was an adjunct lecturer in the Hospitality and Tourism department at Kapi'olani Community College from 2010 to 2019 where she taught HOST 100, HOST 101, HOST 170, HOST 171, HOST 265, and HOST 290. She co-authored the textbook for the HOST-171 Airline Reservations and Pricing course currently in use at Kapi’olani Community College.
As a technical writer focused on the travel and tourism industry, Heidi brings her decades of experience in both hotel and airline positions having worked for Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Florida as Front Office Training Coordinator, and in her position as Sr. Instructor for United Airlines where she helped design, develop and facilitate curriculum for Reservations and Airport Operations/Customer Service training programs currently in use across the globe.
During her 13-year career with United, Heidi spent several years overseas supporting offshore operations in India, the Philippines, China and Canada working with third party vendor instructors to ensure continuity of the curriculum she developed and implemented with a focus on meeting customer satisfaction standards. In addition, Heidi worked closely with multiple departments on Leadership Development strategies for both management and non-management (union & non-union) employees.
Heidi previously worked as Contract Service Manager for Hawaiian Airlines managing all the contracts for both above the wing, and below wing ground operations for US Airways, and Asiana as they initiated service to Hawai’i.
Heidi has also worked on the regulatory side of tourism for the Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration as an Aviation Safety Assistant.
From 1999 to 2005 Heidi taught Travel & Tourism courses at Travel University International’s Honolulu campus. She holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Hawai’i West O’ahu and is currently working on the completion of a Master’s in Educational Psychology at UH Manoa.
Heidi was an instrumental part of the historic 2011 APEC Summit where she trained over 950 State and Federal Airport employees in the Ho’okipa (Hospitality) training program. She continues to work with Kapi’olani Community College Office of Continuing Education as a ghost writer, curriculum designer/developer, and lecturer for the Hawai’i Tourism Authority’s Certificate of Hawai'i Professional Tour Guides program.
Heidi strives to share her passion for living the Aloha Spirit by inspiring others to maintain positive interactions with customers and colleagues alike – to help build solid internal and external relationships through education and training.
